Electron holography was invented by Dennis Gabor to improve the resolution and avoid the aberrations of the transmission electron microscope. Today it is commonly used to study electric and magnetic fields in thin films, as magnetic and electric fields can shift the phase of the interfering wave passing through the sample.The principle of electron holography can also be applied to interference lithography.

Acoustic holography is a method used to estimate the sound field near a source by measuring acoustic parameters away from the source via an array of pressure and/or particle velocity transducers. Measuring techniques included within acoustic holography are becoming increasingly popular in various fields, most notably those of transportation, vehicle and aircraft design, and NVH. The general idea of acoustic holography has led to different versions such as near-field acoustic holography (NAH) and statistically optimal near-field acoustic holography (SONAH). For audio rendition, the wave field synthesis is the most related procedure.

Atomic holography has evolved out of the development of the basic elements of atom optics. With the Fresnel diffraction lens and atomic mirrors atomic holography follows a natural step in the development of the physics (and applications) of atomic beams. Recent developments including atomic mirrors and especially ridged mirrors have provided the tools necessary for the creation of atomic holograms,[18] although such holograms have not yet been commercialized.

3D hologram technology has made some resent developments and all those play an important role in the development of holograms. As 3D holograms technology is equipped to capture thousands of images of a scene, it creates a look that is more of a looking around the object.The 3D technology makes it possible to replay the many different points of view thus producing a 3D effect. Moreover, these images captured can be used by holograms to create motion.

Latest technologies in 3D hologram

There has also been further developments in the field of 3d hologram technology as it's not a big deal for holograms to provide 3D images in true sense and even some holograms are capable of creating 3D moving images as well. The technology which makes these possible requires to capture the 3D information in an appropriate way. It actually makes use of 3D graphics program or it also uses film and video footage. The film and video footage are used by a sequence of images that have been captures. However, the images are in a slightly different position from one another.
